The ZSW Solab tests performance, quality and reliability of PV modules according to standards but also in customer-specific tests: stress by heat, cold and dampness in climate chambers; potential-induced degradation; performance measurement, also after pre-conditioning for stabilisation especially for thin-film PV; mechanical load, EL, thermography.
Outdoor test facility for performance and yield measurements of PV modules and small systems with high-resolution acquisition of relevant electrical and meteorological data: since 1988 near Merklingen in the south of Germany and since 2012 near Barcelona in Spain.
Development and application of testing methods: characterisation of PV modules and systems; long-term module stability; methods for accelerating loss and ageing of modules; correlation of laboratory and outdoor measurements; collaboration in standardisation committees.
System technology and grid integration of PV systems: PV storage systems; energy management; optimisation for personal use; smart grids on distribution grid level.
Counseling of manufacturers, investors, banks, project developers, operators: system measurement and acceptance; yield prognosis and site assessment; technical due diligence reports, solar and wind power output forecasts.
