Following the renewable energy law (Republic Act No. 9513), the Department Of Energy has increased the national solar power capacity target to 500 MW, under an amendment in March 2015. The government has awarded 61 solar contracts, aiming for a total capacity of 1,014 MW.

In its bid to further promote the use and production of renewable energy in the country, the government recently adopted a feed-in tariff scheme.
